Undergraduate studies at the University of the Freestate included theology, philosophy, and some applied mathematics (BA, BTh). Post graduate studies included a MBA from Bond University, Australia; Masters degree in Theology (MTh) and subsequently in Commerce (MCom) leading to registration as Organisational Psychologist with the HPCSA.
PhD (1984-2020) - TRANSDISCIPLINARY
A PhD proposed a Spiritual Markets Hypothesis in economic decision making. Complimentary to the prevailing Efficient Markets Hypothesis and Behavioral Markets Hypothesis. It is a transdisciplinary study including besides other disciplines, institutional economics, behavioural economics philosophy, theology, christian mysticism and psychology
Essentially is about the quantum-like, transcendent, and mystical drivers (antecedents) of economic decision-making. It proposed a new markets hypothesis and explored three potential antecedents: conscience, intuition, and community with the unseen
MONETIZE BEHAVIOURAL ECONOMICS & NUDGING IN THE BIG DATA ENVIRONMENT WITH DATA SCIENCE (2009)
Partnering with big data to monetize nudging insights through data science. Involved in the first offering at a South African University of Behavioural Economics and do undergraduate lecturing in Investor Psychology for 6 years (UNISA). Since 2013 the custodian of the Behavioural Economics Twitter handle (@how_we_behave). SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR & CONTEMPLATIVE MINDFULNESS (1994)
In the general contemplative spiritual environment, I provide spiritual direction from an inclusive spirituality. The insights of neuroeconomics, neuropsychology, protestant theology, Christian mysticism, mindfulness technology are used to provide interventions and sessions that heighten consciousness, individual meaningfulness, and healing.
In the mainline institutional chaplaincy space: I am an ordained reverend and help congregations and individuals with spiritual direction and formation. Coming from a missionary and farming background, I followed a childhood call to enter the ministry. This formed my first professional career up to age 30. Of that, I spent 7 years in full-time ministry in the Dutch Reformed and Presbyterian Churches in KZN South Africa. Was one of the pioneers in using cell groups for church growth.
